Coming to a pregnancy and sexual health clinic can feel a little… nerve-wracking. You don’t know us and we’re about to really get to know you. So, we thought we’d ease your anxiety a bit and show that we’re here for you and we can handle any awkward topics that come our way.
Meet Nurse Wendy. She’s our full-time Nurse Manager and she oversees all the medical things that happen in our two clinics. We have a Medical Director too, but Wendy is likely the person who will administer your pregnancy test and STI tests. She’s also available to answer any medical-related questions at your appointment.
Our clients LOVE Wendy. In fact, her bubbly and positive personality is one of the things our clients enjoy most about our clinics. We caught up with her this week to ask her a few questions about being at PRC:
Why do you work for PRC?
It’s a great environment! We are a nonprofit so we really want to just help our patients however we can. I like that we offer free pregnancy tests and that we will see women as soon as possible so that they can have peace of mind.
How do you handle the awkward convos?
Talking about sex and sexually transmitted infections is never the most fun topic after you just met someone, but we’re professionals and no one will tell us anything we haven’t heard before! We really believe that education is power; that opening a dialogue about risks and choices is the best way to prevent unwanted pregnancies and infections.
What’s one of your favorite things about your job?
I love that we don’t just offer medical services, but education as well. We can help a woman who has an unplanned pregnancy in Naples, Estero, Marco, Bonita and Fort Myers and empowers them with classes, material items, and free services. Each client I meet with is so much stronger and able than they think they are and I love helping them realize that.
Ok, enough about work. What’s your favorite thing to do in Naples?
I’ve lived here for so long that it’s hard to decide! Working out is my way to get rid of stress. I also LOVE shoe and accessory shopping at the malls around here. And the best food? Jimmy D’s in Naples. Hands down.
